Director: William Richardson

William RichardsonWilliam is a former Royal Airforce helicopter pilot and engineering officer, with over 40 years of experience in a wide range of military and commercial rotary and fixed wing MRO. Prior founding LuxOpus in 2012 he held senior leadership positions for the RAF, McAlpine Helicopters and Airbus Helicopters UK. He is a Chartered Engineer and a Fellow of the Institute of Mechanical Engineers.

William was trained by the RAF both as a helicopter pilot and a graduate engineer officer. Almost 20 years of his career was devoted to the Maintenance Repair and Overhaul (MRO) of both fixed wing aircraft and helicopters. This included 4 years developing maintenance policies for then new aircraft such as Jetstream & Chinook, operational level MRO for helicopters and maritime patrol aircraft, and overseeing and planning the deep MRO (civilian level C & D equivalent) of many of the RAF’s front-line aircraft. His final two years were commanding the then RAF engineering consultancy developing MRO concepts for a wide range of military aircraft.

After reaching senior rank he resigned from the RAF he commenced a second career in the civil helicopter industry, initially as Engineering Director for McAlpine Helicopters before transitioning to the role of Commercial Director. During his 10-year tenure he developed civil MRO for the onshore helicopter industry, driving McAlpine’s success through the provision of top class MRO at attractive prices.

McAlpine’s success culminated in its purchase by Airbus. Subsequently William served for 5 years as Commercial Director for Airbus Helicopters UK Ltd. During this time, he pioneered the use of helicopters by the UK Police and Ambulance Services, becoming very familiar with both helicopter MRO and the design and installation of complex upgrades. He introduced “power-by-the-Hour” to the UK helicopter industry. Since February 2012 he has run his own company, LuxOpus Ltd.
